Mariella Franko was a patient whom Chance evaluated 19 months after she experienced a traumatic multiple-vehicle accident.
During the accident, her 68 years old father was decapitated by a flat barred piece of metal after crashing into a truck. The force of the impact sent the piece of metal flying towards their window from the cargo bed of the truck, instantaneously decapitating her father.
Chance had diagnosed her with post-traumatic stress disorder and major depression. He recommended a course of psychotherapy and antidepressant medication. Unfortunately, she went on to receive neither of the treatments because her disability benefits were terminated.
